I Traveled Back in Time

I traveled back in time
to a place much rosier
yet the first thing I saw
a lone boy weeping on new year’s day

Further back in time
I saw darkness deeper still
and in every abyss
this boy struggled but emerged always

Now at this succinct moment
nothing makes much sense
the world’s gone haywire with
all this man-made suffering and pain

Holidays aren’t marked by peace
but by the ends of wars and turmoil
may we continue to persist
in time a bright future shall follow

I Wish to Bawl My Eyes Out

I wish I can bawl my eyes out
if that’s any use to you
alas these tears do not flow, for
they can’t flush away your grief

I wish to have the perfect words
that can make everything proper
alas the more love I pronounce, mere
shrill sounds proceed to your ear

Oh how I wish to move this mountain
one you deem impossible to climb
alas it’s this obstacle, that can
mount evidence of your might

For now I’ll simply be with you
lend you my ears and my heart
Til that moment arises, when
you can love you like I do

The Gloomiest Day of My Life

The gloomiest day of my life
had no clouds in the sky
blue perfection, peaceful even
when all I could see was doom

The flower held a busy bee
danced like the day before
happy to be alive, even
when the world is lit on fire

Life has so much more to offer
lessons beyond our eyes
one foot then the other, even
when panic fogs the minds

If I Were Made of Porcelain

If I were made of porcelain
you’d only call me weak
But if I become pure concrete
you’d still name my color bleak

When I thought I’d be enough
you changed its definition
You fed me opium before
laughing at my addiction

Now I gaze up — skies open
stars infinitely away
I create constellations, and
way find on my own accord

You keep selling solutions for
all problems you create
One can always accumulate more
yet never finding peace

Black is Not My Skin

Black is not my skin
but it is my hair
So though Black isn’t me, it
carries on my mind

I will not choose between
both sides of my hand
Because once cut it bleeds, blood
red just the same

When They pin and pit us
against one another
I stand with both feet; an
aimless kick do falter

Made with cosmic stardust
we flow in speckles
May our voices grow
regardless of perils
