The world is complicated, and it's beautiful
After my weekly run, I find a nearby bench to sit down for my brief meditation.
I close my eyelid to let my other senses open up.
I can hear kids playing a soccer game on the opposite side of this park,
With loving family friends cheering for them.
I empty all the stale air out of my lungs, and expand my belly to draw in fresh air.
There’s water flowing loudly through the nearby drain,
offering background sound that meditation apps would require a subscription for.
Now I hear a jogger on the track, probably with a radio strapped on to them.
An article read aloud, or maybe a podcast? AI-sounding voice, either way.
There’s a group of kids chasing each other,
giggling while also yelling “stopppp!”
I empty all the stale air out of my lungs, and expand my belly to draw in fresh air.
The warm sweat from my forehead is cascading through my eyelashes and down the side of my eyes and down my face.
Gross, but also warming and soothing.
A few crows are flying above me,
cawing and saying hello.
A loud whistle sound, signaling a safe call
by the referee from the soccer game.
I empty all the stale air out of my lungs, and expand my belly to draw in fresh air.
I wipe the sweat that has covered my face,
and lift open my eyelid with brand-new eyes.
The world is so complicated, and it’s beautiful.
