What’s Worth Remembering: December 2023

  1. Things at work are finally getting more traction, I just hope I can wrap up the year soon!
  2. Dickens Fair was again really nice, and it was good to experience it with Livi and Lucian
  3. Spent my last yoga session with CHERISH as my intention. All good things come to an end but this will free me to explore other opportunities
  4. Finally finished my presentation today at work; literally dragging the Keynote app into the Trash
  5. Listened to this podcast where a Mom taught a daughter how to think through a problem instead of simply providing a quick answer
  6. The holiday party is a lot more fun this year, and I’m really thankful Ian drove down to be with me tonight
  7. The day after holiday party is always tiring, especially when the number of meetings are still not letting up
  8. I’m so glad I finally got some stuff done at work — but sure feels like pulling teeth sometimes
  9. Had a really good time doing hot pot with my parents
  10. Watched Leave The World Behind and had really yummy hot pot from last night’s leftovers with Ian
  11. Ian’s really good at baking and I really enjoy all the care he puts in his holiday care packages
  12. Today was a good, ordinary day but mentally it felt very mid. (Am I even saying it correctly?)
  13. Was listening to this podcast episode on how futile it is to post something on social media these days. Because people will always have something to be upset or mean about. I deleted my IG app (again)
  14. I finally survived the final office days! Today’s Jujutsu Kaisen episode kept me at the edge of my seat
  15. Finally gave in and upgrade to the unlimited data plan for our ISP. All hail the JoJo Mart!
  16. Went to Cafe Bakery & Restaurant for our (Christmas) lunch, and at times I honestly had to hold back my tears — the Hong Kong nostalgia is just so strong. I love this place so much 🍛
  17. Ian wasn’t feeling well but I’m glad we still managed to go for a walk to Deadeye Coffee
  18. Ooh The Haunting of Bly Manor is getting good!
  19. It says a lot when a coworker prefers to keep the meeting when it’s so much easier to just cancel them this time of year
  20. Played Japanese Rural Life Adventure, it’s a cute Japanese version of Stardew Valley!
  21. It was great to seeing everyone tonight, and even some I’m finally meeting in person but feels like old friends. Sudo and Ruby are the very cutest!
  22. Ian and I made pierogis from scratch today! It’s like biting into a fluffy pillow (one filled with mashed potatoes and cheese, no less)
  23. We went to my parents for holiday dinner and there was so much food! Had a good time chatting with them via the Parents Are Humans card game. Ian baked cookies for them
  24. We went for a hike in the morning and made pierogies again for dinner. This time was even better with jalapenos and bacon in the filling!
  25. Our Christmas tradition continues with Chinatown dim sum (this year at House of Dim Sum). It was especially great to go for a long walk with Ian’s friend at GGP afterwards
  26. Finally met up with Matt, an old friend at IGN, for lunch and this is the exact thing I want to do this week to destress and reset
  27. I don’t hate often, but when i do, it’s Bank of America
  28. We watched The Boy and the Heron and made fried rice for dinner. What a nice, soothing day
  29. I held the Apple TV remote to talk to Siri, but instead of commanding to switch to a specific smart light scene I muttered “Normal Kiss”
  30. Standing at the street corner from the place where I spent my first few weeks in America, I reflected on my growth since my childhood. I had so many magical and equally, if not more, cringey moments at that place that eventually led me to who I am today
  31. The absolute best thing about writing newsletters is hearing back from friends I’d otherwise lose touch with. It’s an honor and a privilege to grow old together in this journey we call life
