What’s Worth Remembering: February 2024

  1. The down side to listening to podcast at 1.2x speed is that I now have near-zero tolerance on listening to people who meander in conversations. I realize it’s more on me than it is on (a lot of) them, so it’s best I use this as an opportunity to practice patience
  2. Hong Kong foreign actor Gregory Charles Rivers (何國榮) passed away today in an apparent suicide. There has been so many celebrity passings as of late, with Ryan Lau just earlier this year. They both were always so positive in their social media — I guess you never really know
  3. My parents and I were at the restaurant where someone came in (from the back?) to buy a hot and sour sauce packet, and only that. She didn’t have cash on her and the credit card minimum was $10, so the cashier just gave it away for free. I offered to put it in our tab (was just $0.75 anyways)
  4. The drive from Union City was scary at times, but I’m just glad to be back safely before the wind and rain really picked up

  5. It was really nice to talk to my friend and glad I made his day 🙂
  6. I’m so excited Story Worthy (Goodreads) is finally available on Libby, can’t wait to get into it since his Homework for Life sounds pretty similar to what i’m already doing here
  7. Much of my qualifications for this job is just nodding and taking good notes
  8. Ian made an amazing Japanese dinner with Unagi Don with Inari nigiri and even canned squid from Japan!
  9. Took a break today to check out a new apartment with Ian — new opportunities and new beginnings!
  10. Was so nice to spend LNY with family and be able to FaceTime with my aunt and my brother. It’s been too long!
  11. Began packing things into boxes… this is going to take forever

  12. This is going to be one of those insanely busy weeks — let’s hope I make it through
  13. I’m glad there’s a replay of the new BuJo method, as it offers a new way to capture my mood and actions in my daily happenings
  14. Presentation went well, missed the heavy rain on my drive back, and Ian wrote me a lovely letter for Valentine’s day. Today was a pretty good day!
  15. “You can’t stress eat if you don’t have stress!” A very winson thought as I had my second lunch, which was followed by a hot chocolate before downing a whole gelato as I keep working at my desk
  16. Didn’t have time for a run today, but was productive otherwise. Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse lives up to the hype!
  17. Spent some time packing today — It’s strange how much of my life can fit into so few boxes
  18. Had extra sleep night that lead to a really good mood for most of today. The easy parts of the packing are done, and now all there’s remain are the infinite amount of miscellaneous crap that I can neither group nor throw away

  19. The wind was pretty insane today and indeed they were howling — during lunch I looked at the tree outside and could’ve sworn it was going to break
  20. Went to eat outside and the table next to me were talking about the history of Hong Kong. My ears can’t help but to eavedrop — it’s a part of me
  21. It’s official — we signed the lease for the new apartment!
  22. For dinner, the warm kimbap went surprisingly well with the hot and sour soup Ian made
  23. A run after a week-long storm is the best. Been listening to classical music during my run to allow myself to daydream for a little bit
  24. The park was so full of people enjoying the park. A kid was playing by the water drain, completely absorbed by it. The weather was just about perfect and I couldn’t stop smiling
  25. The toughest things to pack are most definitely all the extra parts that comes from random-ass things like TVs, ovens, shelves, etc. I don’t need them 99.9% of the time but I might in the future, so here I am packing them yet again only to bring it with me to the next place

  26. Took a sick day after my mind kept telling me to, and not to power through like I always do. Listening to my body is important, yo
  27. Feeling introverted, I was apprehensive about having lunch with Jonathan. But it went well and I appreciated the social connection that I would otherwise not have
  28. Met a woman while waiting for Hui Lau Shan and glad we could chat while waiting for the doors to open. Small win for making social connections through small moments like these.
  29. A day full of meetings and a coworker came looking for me to have lunch, and I was like blargh — but turns out that was the best thing to refresh and reset the rest of the day
